The Problem With Plastic Bottles, Plastic Pollution & Damage To The Planet:  An overview of plastic pollution and what you can do to help the planet
Plastic bottles floating in the ocean. The effects on plastic pollution.
Plastic has only been around for about 70 years, but once disposed of, it can take centuries to fully decompose. As an Australian-based sustainable brand, we care for the planet and our customers, which is why we decided to write this informative article regarding the problem with plastic bottles and pollution.

Plastic Pollution Crisis Worldwide
The plastic pollution crisis has been a discussion topic in every country of the world for quite a while, but how did it happen? In the beginning, plastics were made from fossil fuels that were about a century old, but when World War II happened, the search and development for new ways of creating plastic and products accelerated fast. This led to incredible innovations such as medical devices and gadgets, the introduction of helmets, and the possibility of space travel.

Plastic is truly a life-changing material that completely turned the world around. But soon problems started to arise regarding the disposal of plastic-made products. According to National Geographic, “today, single-use plastics account for 40 percent of the plastic produced every year”; and most products that we use daily such as wrappers, bags, and straws, have a super short lifespan of minutes and sometimes hours, but they pollute the environment for hundreds of years to come.

Where Does Plastic Stand Today?
The world has never seen such an enormous amount of plastic as the one present today. NatGeo released some interesting facts about this, claiming that “production increased exponentially, from 2.3 million tons in 1950 to 448 million tons by 2015. Production is expected to double by 2050”.

Every piece of plastic takes centuries to decompose, with a single bottle topping the list with a total of 450 years to fully decompose. And as we all know, and sadly most of the time ignore, most of these plastics end up contaminating our oceans, damaging ecosystems, and killing marine animals and plants that are essential to our wellbeing.

What You Can Do To Help The Planet
Helping the planet is essential to ensure life on Earth as we know it. Ignoring important current-crisis topics such as plastic pollution and climate change will only accelerate damage to us and all life on the planet. There are many things you can do today to start helping the environment such as recycling, switching to paper or fabric bags, investing in an ecological toothbrush, and even a reusable straw.
Apart from this, it is crucial to assess the products you have at home, like your shampoo and conditioner bottles, to find sustainable options that still look after your hair.
